A glass tips over at dinner, and a shirt, a dress or a tablecloth takes the splash. What happens in the first few minutes matters: the sooner red wine is treated, the better its chances. Start with a clean cloth and cold water, then work in a wine stain remover before the wash.
In the First Few Minutes
- Blot the wine with a clean, white cloth. Do not rub, which spreads the stain.
- Rinse the back of the stain with cold water to push the wine out of the fibres.
- Keep the garment away from hot water and the dryer, since heat can set the stain.
Using a Wine Stain Remover at Home
- Test the Reserve stain remover spray on a hidden seam first.
- Spray the stain so it is fully covered.
- Work it in gently with the soft spotting brush or the spotting bone.
- Machine wash the garment following its care label, and check the stain before drying.
Keep the Reserve Starter Kit at home for the next spill: the spray, the 32 oz refill, the spotting bone and the soft brush in one set.
Bring It to Glenforest
Bring the garment to us when it is silk, wool or a tailored piece, when its care label rules out a home wash, or when the wine has dried. Note that the stain is red wine and anything tried at home. Every garment is assessed before cleaning, then given professional wet cleaning and finished. Request free pickup or visit us at 3309 Yonge Street, in Yonge and Lawrence Village.
