Glenforest is a garment care shop in Yonge and Lawrence Village. In 2007, it switched from solvent dry cleaning to professional wet cleaning, and Toronto Environmental Alliance calls it the first Toronto cleaner to switch 100% to wet cleaning.

A wet cleaning process uses water to clean your clothes. A specially formulated detergent and finishing agent are used in the cleaning process, and each step is selected for the garment. In 2007, Glenforest switched to 100% wet cleaning.

On a fully blown unit, for a smooth finish, then the collar and cuffs are finished by hand on the reverse side to protect colour and style. Silk, delicates and tailored garments receive finishing matched to the piece.

In dry cleaning, a chemical solvent such as perc takes the place of water. Professional wet cleaning uses water, with specialized detergents and finishing agents, and the process is set for each garment. Our page Why Wet Cleaning Wins compares the two, with its sources.

It depends on the solvent. Perc, the traditional dry cleaning solvent, is on Canada's List of Toxic Substances, and its use in dry cleaning has been regulated since 2003. Not every dry cleaner uses perc. Our page Why Wet Cleaning Wins lists the sources.

Yes. Wet cleaning suits most garments labelled dry clean. Bring them with their care labels, and each piece is assessed before its process is set.

Yes. The jacket is wet cleaned, then finished on a form, with attention to the shoulders, lapels and drape: a fine garment finish for your blazer.

At Glenforest, in Yonge and Lawrence Village. Each silk piece is assessed by label and fabric, wet cleaned with care chosen for it and carefully finished. Bring it to our counter, or send it on a Tuesday or Friday pickup.

Blot it with a clean cloth, do not rub it, and keep the shirt away from the dryer, since heat can set a stain. Test any treatment on a hidden seam first. Our Care Journal has the steps for oil, collar and red wine stains. Bring silk, wool and tailored pieces to us untreated.

Yes. Glenforest performs a wide range of alterations, with a fitting room on site. From original hems for jeans to a new zipper in your winter coat, every alteration is fitted in person.

Yes. On our Tuesday and Friday routes, pickup and delivery come with no additional cost. Other days: upon request, please allow us to confirm. Just fill out the pickup request online, or call 416 488-6717. It's that easy!

Yes. Return your hangers with your next pickup or at the counter. Hangers in good condition go back into service.

$6 per pound. Every order is pre-spotted and post-spotted, pressed and folded, and returned in a Glenforest bag.
