A drop of salad dressing, butter on a cuff, makeup on a collar or a smear of bike grease: oil marks are among the most common stains on clothes. Heat from a dryer can set an oil mark, so treat it with an oil stain remover before the garment goes near the dryer.
In Our Workroom
At Glenforest, every garment is assessed before cleaning: its fabric, its care label and the mark itself. Oil marks are treated at the spotting board, then the garment receives professional wet cleaning and is finished for its fabric.
Using an Oil Stain Remover at Home
- Blot away any excess oil with a clean, dry cloth. Do not rub it further into the fabric.
- Test the Reserve stain remover spray on a hidden seam first.
- Spray the stain so it is fully covered.
- Work it in gently with the spotting bone or the soft spotting brush, from the edge of the stain toward the centre.
- Machine wash the garment following its care label, and check the stain before drying.
The Reserve Starter Kit brings the spray, the 32 oz refill, the spotting bone and the soft brush together in one set.
Bring It to Glenforest
Bring the garment to us when it is silk, wool or a tailored piece, when its care label rules out a home wash, or when the stain is large, old or already treated. Note what caused the mark and anything tried at home, then request free pickup or visit us at 3309 Yonge Street, in Yonge and Lawrence Village.
